Pews vs. Chairs For Church Seating

While God’s word never changes…where we worship Him does occasionally need renovation. One of the biggest questions we’re asked is about church seating, specifically: should we install pews or chairs.

We tell clients it all depends on what you want to do with your sanctuary space, and how your congregation would be most comfortable worshiping.

Pews From Kivett’s Fine Church Furniture

Some congregations prefer the traditional pew seating, and we’re happy to accommodate that.  We sell, manufacture, deliver and install custom wood pews from our plant in Clinton, North Carolina. We would be happy to come to your church building and meet with you to discuss all the custom options we can help you with if you decide to install pews in your sanctuary. And we’ll make sure the entire process, from inquiry to installation goes smoothly in a timely manner, with as little disruption to your church services as possible.

Church Chairs From Kivett’s Fine Church Furnishings – A Myriad Of Choices!

Other churches prefer to make the move to chairs: Sturdy, comfortable mobile chairs provide the comfort of individual seating, and can be both moved around, or lined up to form pews. If your congregation is comfortable with a more modern approach to seating, church chairs offer flexibility that can be a real advantage for your space:  It’s easy to move and store chairs, so you can create more space or reconfigure a room. You can also add additional chairs to provide more seating. And for those used to a traditional wooden pew, chairs offer more comfort with their upholstered padding.

A nice compromise between traditional and modern seating are pew chairs:  These comfortable padded chairs interlock so your church can use them to form pew-like seating, while having the option to unlink the chairs to move them around and make your space multi-purpose. Pew chairs have metal pieces on both sides of the seat that enable the chairs to interlock, forming stable, symmetrical rows of seating.  Then when desired, pew chairs can be easily disconnected for storage or reconfiguration.  Both pew chairs and standalone church chairs stack easily, are a dream to move and store, and can be placed anywhere- so can provide seating wherever it’s needed.

As always, church budget is a consideration: The benefit of chairs is that because they don’t need to be handcrafted to fit a particular space, they tend to be less expensive than traditional wooden pews.
